2020 Archimedes Leadership Workshop

Overview

CANCELLATION STATEMENT (verbatim): "Archimedes Statement on cancellation on our Leadership Workshop due to COVID-19 — Many people have reached out to us regarding the status of our upcoming Archimedes 2020 Leadership Workshop in light of COVID-19. Based on our interest in everyone's well being, the fact that we have already had a number of speakers drop out, and after thoughtful consideration, our team has decided to cancel the 2020 Leadership Workshop. This is disappointing, but the right thing to do. Once the current situation has passed, our team will look into other options to bring you value, education and continued thoughtful conversations amongst members. We appreciate your patience as we work through options and new ideas. We are sorry for any inconvenience this causes any of our members, but the safety and well being of our friends, colleagues and staff is our number one concern. -The Archimedes Team"
ORIGINAL EVENT DESCRIPTION: The Leadership Workshop on Medical Device Security is a 2-day exclusive event for Archimedes members and guests. The workshop is a combination of short presentations, group discussions and multiple opportunities to roll up your sleeves and get to work to find solutions. Our workshop provides everyone a safe place to teach, learn and discuss the issues around the "how" to advance the medical device security conversation. This year, we are changing locations to work in conjunction with the University of Minnesota to bring you more insight, more topics and more discussion avenues. Our event will be the same format as always with great conversation amongst all the members and friends of Archimedes, with the option to stay and learn more at the UofM's DMD conference at a discounted rate. This is a member and by-invite-only event. Interested in becoming a member? Email us at archimedes@umich.edu.

Code of conduct

Archimedes strives to create an environment characterized by mutual trust with the absence of intimidation, oppression and exploitation. We require event attendees, sponsors, speakers, organizers and volunteers to adhere to the following code of conduct. Harassment in any form will not be tolerated.
NEED HELP? If it is safe, request that the person stop the unwelcome or harassing behavior and find an event staff member or organizer immediately (identified by their red badge), or email archimedes@umich.edu or text/call 734-747-1225.
THE SHORT VERSION: Archimedes events are to be harassment and inappropriate behavior-free space for everyone, regardless of gender, gender identity and expression, age, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, body size, race, ethnicity, religion (or lack thereof), or technology choices. Sexual language and imagery are not appropriate for any event venue, including talks, workshops, social events, parties, Twitter and other online media. Similarly, encouraging others to engage in such behavior is not permitted, nor are false accusations of harassment. Participants who violate these rules may be sanctioned or expelled from the event without a refund at the discretion of Archimedes' leadership.
THE EXPANDED VERSION — What is Harassment or inappropriate behavior? Harassment or inappropriate behavior includes offensive verbal comments related to gender, gender identity and expression, age, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, body size, race, ethnicity, religion, technology choices, sexual images in public spaces, deliberate intimidation, stalking, following, harassing photography or recording, sustained disruption of talks or other events, inappropriate physical contact, and unwelcome sexual attention. Participants asked to stop any harassing behavior are expected to comply immediately.
What to do in an uncomfortable situation? If you are being harassed, notice that someone else is being harassed, or have any other concerns, please contact Archimedes staff or an event organizer immediately (identified by their red color badge). If necessary, our team can help in contacting hotel/venue security or local law enforcement, provide escorts, or otherwise assist so that everyone feels safe for the duration of the event.
What happens once a report is made? Archimedes staff will investigate the situation. If it is determined, after due diligence, that any participant is engaging in harassing behavior, the conference organizers may take any action they deem appropriate, including warning the offender or expulsion from the event with no refund.
We expect ALL participants to follow these rules at event venues and related social events.
Guidelines for Sponsors, Speakers, and Organizers: Event sponsors, speakers, and organizers are also subject to this code of conduct. Sponsors, speakers, and organizers are responsible for the content of shared materials and need to be cognizant of potentially offensive actions, language, or imagery in conveying their message.
[REPEATING BLOCK: identical Code of Conduct text used on both the 2020 101 Conference and 2020 Leadership Workshop pages — good candidate for a single shared HubDB/module entry.]
[2020 LW version identical to the 2020 101 Conference version; hero banner shows the '2020 LW cancelled' image.]
