Archimedes strives to create an environment characterized by mutual trust with the absence of intimidation, oppression and exploitation. We require event attendees, sponsors, speakers, organizers and volunteers to adhere to the following code of conduct. Harassment in any form will not be tolerated.

Code of Conduct

The Short Version

Archimedes events are to be harassment and inappropriate behavior-free space for everyone, regardless of gender, gender identity and expression, age, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, body size, race, ethnicity, religion (or lack thereof), or technology choices. Sexual language and imagery are not appropriate for any event venue, including talks, workshops, social events, parties, Twitter and other online media. Similarly, encouraging others to engage in such behavior is not permitted, nor are false accusations of harassment. Participants who violate these rules may be sanctioned or expelled from the event without a refund at the discretion of Archimedes’ leadership.

The Expanded Version

What is Harassment or inappropriate behavior?

Harassment or inappropriate behavior includes offensive verbal comments related to gender, gender identity and expression, age, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, body size, race, ethnicity, religion, technology choices, sexual images in public spaces, deliberate intimidation, stalking, following, harassing photography or recording, sustained disruption of talks or other events, inappropriate physical contact, and unwelcome sexual attention. Participants asked to stop any harassing behavior are expected to comply immediately.

What to do in an uncomfortable situation?

If you are being harassed, notice that someone else is being harassed, or have any other concerns, please contact Archimedes staff or an event organizer immediately (identified by their red color badge).

If necessary, our team can help in contacting hotel/venue security or local law enforcement, provide escorts, or otherwise assist so that everyone feels safe for the duration of the event.

What happens once a report is made?

Archimedes staff will investigate the situation. If it is determined, after due diligence, that any participant is engaging in harassing behavior, the conference organizers may take any action they deem appropriate, including warning the offender or expulsion from the event with no refund.

We expect ALL participants to follow these rules at event venues and related social events.

Guidelines for Sponsors, Speakers, and Organizers

Event sponsors, speakers, and organizers are also subject to this code of conduct. Sponsors, speakers, and organizers are responsible for the content of shared materials and need to be cognizant of potentially offensive actions, language, or imagery in conveying their message.
